Erich Emch:
Emch was drafted in 1965
before he graduated from high school, but he received a deferment. He then joined the Ohio Army National Guard, serving until 1971. In 1970, he drove a bulk milk truck, and also worked side construction jobs. As a Specialist-4 in Company A, he was positioned on the crest of Blanket Hill at the time of the shootings. Originally from the Wooster area, he has lived in northwest Ohio for over 40 years.

Emch unrolls the May 24, 1970, special issue of the Akron Beacon Journal that reported extensively on the Kent State shootings. Emch's mother saved the newspaper for him because she thought he might want it someday.
