Stephen Gagnon:
Gagnon worked maintenance at the Akron Brass foundry in his hometown of Wooster when he joined the National Guard in 1969. On May 4th, 1970, he was attending officer candidate school at Fort Benning. Gagnon returned to Ohio eight days later, and was interviewed by a New York Times reporter at the next drill weekend at Camp Perry. He now lives in Fort Myers, Fla., where he works as a certified flight instructor.

Gagnon gave a brief quotation to the reporter who wrote this piece for the New York Times in June 1970. Gagnon had attended the Kent State branch campus in Wadsworth after high school. He told the reporter, "I'm not sure I'm going back." He didn't. Gagnon later earned an engineering degree from the University of Akron.
