William Herthneck:
Commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1968, Herthneck fulfilled a six-year obligation in the National Guard. His unit arrived in Kent on the evening of May 2nd. On the 4th, he was near Taylor Hill when he heard the gunshots. At the time, Herthneck’s sister and future brother-in-law were Kent State students. His grandson is currently a Kent State student. He now lives in Medina.
