Jones joined the Ohio Army National Guard before his high school graduation. He worked at a Rittman paper mill when he was activated in the spring of 1970. As a 19-year old private in Company A, Jones stood in formation on Blanket Hill at the time of the Kent State shootings. He currently lives in Wooster.
