Lynn Stovall: Stovall joined the National Guard a few months after graduating from high school. He served five years in the 145th Infantry Division based out of the Akron armory, before fulfilling his final year of obligation in the Kentucky National Guard. When deployed to Kent in May 1970, he was working at Goodyear Tire & Rubber. On the 4th, he was stationed near the old gym when he heard the gunfire. In 1977, Stovall joined a protest at Kent State to oppose construction on the site of the shootings. Wearing his old National Guard uniform, he walked under the ropes that police set up to clear the location. After being arrested, he told reporters that "we should preserve this site of an important event in American history." He now lives in Norton.
